VladVladstudio is the project of Russian digital artist Vlad Gerasimov. In 1998 I started to design user interfaces for web sites and software applications. However, when I had some free time, I created desktop wallpapers. Over the time, this hobby has grown into business, and today I enjoy full-time self-employment, creating wallpapers for your computers and mobile devices. I love what I do, and I  am happy that many people around the world love it, too!

Ho ho ho, happy 2016! {30 December 2015}

Despite not updating Vladstudio.com for almost 2 years (which is almost lifetime for a web site), I still receive many emails from visitors - some with questions, some (still) with compliments. Thank you for all your emails! I'd like to shed some light on my life these two years.

Well, it's changed.

Who Stole The Moon? - free (paper) book giveaway {28 March 2014}

[UPDATE - all books have been sent out and this post is now for history only.]

Book photo

Some time ago, when I was young and naive, I self-published a book with my illustrations, "Who Stole The Moon?". It sold steadily... for some time. Then I realized what most people in similar situation do - to keep sales going, you need to stop drawing/working/whatever you're doing and start marketing. I was always awful at marketing, so sales basically stopped by now. And because I am now full-time employed, I have no enegry left to spend on pushing the sales.

However, I have an idea what I should do about the remaining books. A couple of times, I sent batches of books to my friends from charity fund helping children with Epidermolysis bullosa - deti-bela.ru (I'm glad I have a chance to promote them here!) Instead of gathering dust in my mother's apartment, I'd rather see these books in children's hands.

So here is the deal. If you participate in something related to children aged 2-6 (kindergarten, charity fund, health care center, hospital, etc) and are interested, I will send you "Who Stole The Moon?" for free.

The photos are below. For more information, please email to vladstudio@gmail.com (do NOT contact me using comments on this page). Thanks!

Vladstudio.com - what's (not) going on {18 February 2014}

If you've visited my website before, you might have noticed I have not updated it for a while. I have been receiving emails saying "Where are new wallpapers?", "We miss you!" - and I truly appreciate them. Silence is proved means of defence for me. However, allow me to write a little bit, just in case you're interested.

Some time ago, I used to combine doing outsource design and development with drawing wallpapers. It worked well, sometimes challenging, but manageable. I had steady flow of jobs, and enough time to draw a wallpaper every week or two.

Then, three things happened.

Vladstudio.com - still alive {7 July 2013}

"Almost two months without a new wallpaper, what about a 'full-time self-employment, creating wallpapers'???" (Comment from a Vladstudio visitor).

Allow me to shed light on why I have been silent. There is nothing exciting - I have been occupied by two side projects (both taking time but not making any money), plus traveling, plus my kid not being well (all is well now, fortunately). I have plenty of ideas for new wallpapers in my head - just completely out of time and energy to actually draw them. Now, I must say I am lucky man - even with no updates, my humble website remains my (only) source of stable income! I am really looking forward to dedicating myself to vladstudio.com again. Hopefully soon!

Think outside Photoshop - new image editing concept {12 March 2013}

Russian translation and discussion: Habrahabr.ru

I love Adobe Photoshop. I really do! I have been using it daily for about 10 years. One cannot over-estimate its influence on the world of image editing - which, in many ways, defines how the world around us looks! I'm sure that right now, in your room, there is at least one thing partly designed in Photoshop. All the images in this article were prepared in Photoshop!

In its market, Photoshop is King. You can also call it "standard" (which is mostly good) or "monopoly" (which is mostly bad). But the fact remains - if you work with image editing, you must think in Photoshop's terms and follow its workflows.

Photoshop is not the most complex piece of software (because, let's be fair, digial imaging is not the most complex thing of all). However, it is quite complex, for several reasons. First, it can really do many things. But also, because it is very old, almost as old as I am! This long history of development means Photoshop did not have a chance to re-think any of its core ideas and start some things from scratch. You know, compatibility; and besides, why fix something that works!

However, recently an idea came to me that's been bugging me, asking to be written and published. So I am writing it here without any specific goal or wish - just because I'd love to share and see what you think. Nothing can be better than an interesting discussion! (Hint - comments are welcome!)

vPass 3 - smart web-based generator of secure passwords {28 February 2013}

vPass screenshot

I upgraded my password generator to version 3. I suspect I am the only one using it :-) but if you're curious why it's good:

vPass takes your master password (f.e. my_password) and, optionally, current domain (f.e. http://accounts.google.com converts into google) and generates 12-letter mix of letters, numbers and symbols (f.e. 0EQu$MwEm?Qt).

Your master password never leaves your device. vPass is 100% client-side, pure Javascript, no data is sent to server. It's just a webpage, so it works on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, webOS, and any future OS too.

Ho ho ho, happy 2016!:
Hey Vlad - congrats on the new job (I know its now really new, just recent). And of course I always love your wallpapers - I love the whimsy - they make me smile which no other wallpaper does. I understand the depression - believe me!

Laravel - a beautiful PHP framework that does not make me feel stupid:
Laravel Framework has marked an iconic stamp in the PHP Community and is developing with time to enhance existing functionalities. Laravel Developer can ease creating flexible web apps in a comparatively lesser time duration. It is a promising framework and shall be around the coming years.
